New online home fire safety tool now available

Monday, 20 May 2024

A new online tool has been introduced by the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service (IOMFRS) to help the public check fire safety measures in their homes.

The online home fire safety check platform provides fire safety advice specific to the individual and their living conditions. The easy-to-follow home fire safety check takes users through their own homes one room at a time, with simple questions to help spot fire risks. It also offers tips and advice on the steps people can take to reduce those risks, then creates a personalised fire safety action plan for the specific user. Users are asked about a range of information, from property type and number of floors to tidiness, heating and occupants, in order to develop bespoke advice for them.

The tool is a joint initiative between the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), Fire Kills and Safelincs. The IOMFRS Fire Prevention and Protection Department (previously the Fire Safety Department) has introduced the platform in the Isle of Man to help bolster its efforts to keep people safe, and to help the service reach a wider audience.

The rebrand to a ‘Prevention and Protection’ department demonstrates the IOMFRS’ commitment to advancing with the modern day fire service, reflecting a strategic focus on prevention, which aligns with UK national firefighting guidelines.
